A Lahore summer is not gentle. Temperatures above 40°C, brutal humidity, dust from the roads, and intense UV rays — your skin is fighting against all of this every single day from April to September. And most of us are fighting back with the wrong weapons.
Here are the seven skincare mistakes we see most often at CORAL Beauty Emporium — and how to fix each one.
Mistake 1: Using a Heavy Moisturiser in Summer
In Pakistani summers, many women continue using the same thick, cream-based moisturisers they used in winter. This is a problem. Heavy moisturisers in humid, hot weather sit on top of your skin, mix with sweat and sebum, clog pores, and cause breakouts.
The fix: Switch to a lightweight, gel-based or water-based moisturiser in summer. If your skin feels oily, you still need moisture — just a lighter version. Dehydrated oily skin actually produces MORE oil to compensate. Hydrate it properly with the right product.
Mistake 2: Skipping Sunscreen Because You're Indoors
"But I'm inside all day in the AC." We hear this all the time. And it's one of the most damaging skincare myths in Pakistan.
UV rays — specifically UVA rays, the ones that cause ageing and pigmentation — come right through windows. Your office window, your car window, your living room window. If you can see daylight, UVA is reaching your skin.
The fix: Wear SPF every single day, year-round, regardless of whether you plan to go outside. A minimum SPF 30, ideally SPF 50, every morning. This is the single most effective thing you can do for your skin.
Mistake 3: Using Whitening Creams That Contain Harmful Ingredients
Pakistan's market is flooded with whitening creams that promise lighter skin. Many of them contain mercury, high concentrations of hydroquinone, or steroids. These products can cause severe skin damage — thinning, sensitivity, rebound darkening, and in serious cases, permanent pigmentation damage.
The fix: For genuine improvement in skin tone and pigmentation, use clinically proven ingredients: Vitamin A (retinol), Vitamin C, and Niacinamide. The Environ skincare range at CORAL uses exactly these ingredients in scientifically validated concentrations. Mistake 4: Over-Cleansing Oily Skin
When your skin gets oily in the heat, the instinct is to wash it more — sometimes three, four, five times a day. This strips the skin's natural oils, damages the moisture barrier, and triggers even more oil production in response.
The fix: Wash your face twice a day maximum — morning and night — with a gentle, non-stripping cleanser. If your skin feels oily during the day, use blotting papers or a gentle toner with a cotton pad, not another full wash.
Mistake 5: Picking at Breakouts
Summer heat and sweat trigger more breakouts for many women. And the temptation to pick them is real. But picking at spots causes inflammation, spreads bacteria, and dramatically increases the chance of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — the dark marks that take months to fade on Pakistani skin tones.
The fix: Hands off. Use a targeted spot treatment with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. For persistent acne, come and see us at CORAL — our Environ treatments and professional extractions are the safe, effective alternative.
Mistake 6: Forgetting to Exfoliate (or Doing It Too Often)
Exfoliation removes the build-up of dead skin cells that makes skin look dull and congested. Many women in Pakistan don't exfoliate at all. But some over-exfoliate with harsh scrubs that create micro-tears and sensitise the skin.
The fix: Exfoliate gently 1–2 times a week maximum. Use a chemical exfoliant (like an AHA or BHA toner) rather than a rough physical scrub. If you're not sure what's right for your skin, our CORAL therapists can guide you at any consultation.
Mistake 7: Ignoring Your Neck and Hands
Your face gets all the attention, but your neck, décolletage, and hands are equally exposed to sun and ageing. Sun damage on the neck and chest is extremely common and very hard to reverse.
The fix: Apply your skincare routine — cleanser, serum, SPF — to your neck and chest too. And book a professional treatment at CORAL that includes the neck when you're doing your face.
